Abstract

In recent years, the business environment has seen a major increase in sports sponsorship, as a mean of marketing communication. This communication technique has been getting more attention from international companies in general and Algerian companies in particular, in their marketing mix.
And as the marketing process targeted primarily at the consumer, therefore, this work aimed to study the potential impact of sports sponsorship on consumer behavior according to three main hypotheses that assumes the existence of an impact of this communication technique on the three stages: Before; During; and after the purchasing process, considering the purchase process as the center of the marketing process goals.
The literature review focused on sports sponsorship and consumer behavior has enabled us to identify the main variables and organized them into a model that made it easy for us to test the study hypotheses. In addition, we took the audience of the Algerian national team football for men and its sponsors as a field to test the hypotheses of these circumstances study:
The results have shown that there is an impact of sports sponsorship on the dimensions of consumer behavior that we adopted in this study. However, the impact strength differs from one company to another according to: nature (national / global), nature of its products (durable or large-scale consumption), and the congruity between this company and the sponsored team. It also revealed that the brand of these companies by image and notoriety can mediate this impact in partial mediation for the companies that produce large-scale consumer products. While whom produce durable products is mediated entirely its impact on consumer behavior. Most important results are the existence of moderator variable of these impacts, such as consumer persuasive knowledge and consumer involvement, and the existence of differences in the sample's perception of sports sponsorship, which is related to the demographic characteristics of the sample members (gender, income, age). Otherwise, this we did not record any differences related to the educational level.
Key words: sports sponsorship, consumer behavior before purchase, consumer behavior during purchase, consumer behavior after purchase, brand.
