“Household Models in Algeria: Evolution, Characteristics, and Determinants - An Analytical Study Based on the 2018/2019 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS6) Data” Abstract: Human societies undergo continuous change and development, influenced by political, economic, and cultural factors in what is known as social change—the transition of a society from one state to another due to internal and external transformations. As the household forms the core of society, it is directly affected by these transformations, making its study essential for understanding the evolution of social structures . This study aims to analyze the transformations within Algerian households in terms of size, structure, and family composition, based on available data. The findings indicate that the simple household model has become the most prevalent (77.8%), with the majority (83.81%) consisting of a married couple with children. Other household structures were distributed as follows: 9.4% extended households, 6.5% single-person households, 1.8% composite households, and 1.6% households with no defined family structure. Regarding family composition, the simple family composition dominated (77.8%), while the remaining proportions were distributed among descending family composition (10.3%), ascending family composition (5.5%), and other compositions such as non-family, collateral, and composite structures, ranging from 3.0% to 0.3% . These findings have contributed to tracking the evolution of Algerian households between 1962 and 2019, while analyzing influencing factors such as delayed age at first marriage, fertility rates, education, urbanization, unemployment, and women's participation in the labor market. The study emphasizes the importance of maintaining household stability amid rapid transformations by adopting strategies that preserve its fundamental role in society.
